According the National Institutes of Health, back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives. It can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. Acute back pain comes on suddenly and usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks. But pain that continues more than a few months is considered chronic.

Pain in the lower back is quite common and could be caused by a variety of issues. You may have been doing many activities, such as lifting the wrong way, for a long time. Then suddenly, one simple movement, such as reaching for something or bending from your waist, leads to pain. You may have back stiffness, decreased movement of the lower back, and difficulty standing straight.
